The research on the cure for Adrenal Cortex Cancer in children, carried out by the Pelé Pequeno Príncipe Institute (Curitiba-Paraná), was awarded with the Latin America Oncology Health Awards, under the scientific work category, promoted by Novartis Oncologia and Agilla Saúde, counting on the support from OPAS (The Pan American Health Organization). The result came out on the night of May 04, 2006.
The IPPP project ran against 170 other ones from various countries in Latin America, such as Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay and Venezuela.
The works and project were assessed by a committee made up of scientists and Latin-American professionals from both the health sector as from the third sector. What was taken into account as regards the analysis of the scientific works was their innovative character, their reproduction and reversion capacity towards the clinical practice, their pharmaceutical-economic impact and their technical and scientific suitability. After a rigorous evaluation process, ten works from each category were selected (scientific and social projects). Of these, five scientific and five social works were awarded. Our award was the only one regarding children.
